Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera singspiel The Abduction from the Seraglio started in Europe the fashion for that what’s Turkish. Luk Perceval adds to it a critical approach to contemporary times, cooperating on it with a Turkish immigrant Aslı Erdoğan – writer and journalist living in Ghent and a human rights activist who used to be a political prisoner. She rewrote the spoken parts of the opera, referring to her own experience of alienation, loneliness and femininity. This way the opera gained a new, contemporary dimension.
